DDT Risk Classification

Risk Classification: Risk is based on the protection of wildlife consumers of aquatic biota, such as birds of prey, NOT humans (Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment 1999).
The DDT levels in brook trout (5-7 per study lake) from seven lakes were all below Health Canada Maximum Residue Limits for human health and food safety.
Forests where < 0.5 kg/ha DDT was applied tend to have lakes with brook trout that reflect low DDTs. Brook trout from lakes where > 1.0 kg/ha DDT was applied tend to reflect higher DDTs (see Kurek et al. 2025 PLoS One).
